blog graphic-FAQ pageQ. What types of books and projects do you take on?

A. You can get a feel for the types of projects we do by checking out the Recent Projects page. We take on most projects sent to us, including nonfiction.

Q. Are there any types of projects you don’t do?

A. Just as literary agents specialize, so do we. We don’t do children’s books, horror, erotica, dystopian, eco thrillers or other similar books containing cataclysmic disasters.

Q. How do I contact you about my project?

A. Go to the contact page and fill out the form, telling us a little about your project and how many words it is. We’ll get back to you within 24 hours, usually sooner. Or you can email me directly at amy@thewritehelper.com and tell me about it.

Q. What can I expect from an edit or critique?

A. You can find a description of the various services here. If you decide to work with us, you’ll attach your MS Word file via email and send to me at amy@thewritehelper.com. I’ll give you an estimated return date as well as a price quote for our services. Once I receive your file, I’ll begin making comments and corrections via track changes.

Q. How do I make payment?

A. I’ll send an invoice via Paypal. (You don’t have to have a Paypal account to use their service.) I also take personal checks or money orders in certain circumstances. You pay a small down payment, based on the overall total, and the balance is due upon completion of the project.

Q. Do you work with beginning writers?

A. Definitely! Beginning, intermediate, advanced–all are welcome.

Q. Do you work with international writers?

A. An enthusiastic yes! I have worked with writers from the UK, Australia, Canada, Denmark, and China.

Q. What stylebook do you use?

A. My default option is The Chicago Manual of Style, the most recent edition, but I will use whatever stylebook writers request. For example, when I work with UK writers, I use the Oxford Style Manual.

Q. Do you ghost write any of your projects?

A. No. We prefer to help a writer find his or her unique voice and develop it.
